About this role

Biodiversity for a Livable Climate (Bio4Climate) seeks an experienced, well-connected Development Director to expand our donor base and grow philanthropic support for our work in ecological restoration, biodiversity, and climate resilience.

We are a small, entrepreneurial nonprofit with a national audience, established programs, committed supporters, and significant opportunities for growth.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building relationships, opening doors, and turning opportunities into financial support. We are looking for a self-directed professional who can take initiative, work collaboratively with our Executive Director, and build a stronger, more diversified funding base.

  • Grow our donor base: Identify, engage, and cultivate new individual donors, including prospective major donors, through personal outreach, referrals, and relationship-building.
  • Strengthen existing relationships: Steward current donors, deepen their engagement, and develop opportunities for increased and recurring support.
  • Expand foundation support: Identify funding prospects, leverage existing relationships, cultivate new foundation contacts, and secure grants, with an emphasis on Greater Boston and New England.
  • Write compelling proposals: Develop letters of inquiry, grant applications, donor appeals, and reports that connect our mission and accomplishments to funding opportunities.
  • Lead development communications: Prepare our annual report in collaboration with program staff and develop other materials that support donor engagement.
  • Build fundraising capacity: Maintain a practical donor prospect pipeline, track progress, and work with the Executive Director to establish and achieve fundraising goals.

Key Requirements

  • Demonstrated success in nonprofit fundraising, including individual giving, donor acquisition, and foundation grants.
  • Established professional connections in the Greater Boston philanthropic community, particularly with foundations.
  • Residence in the Greater Boston area and availability for in-person donor and foundation meetings.
